Our Curriculum

At Teddington School we have crafted our curriculum to meet our core aims of inclusion, opportunity and excellence. The curriculum is broad and balanced and inclusive in its breadth and depth, giving opportunity to all students regardless of their starting points. It is carefully sequenced by subject experts to build knowledge and skills over time, interleaving to ensure that fundamental concepts are revisited to promote long term knowledge retention.

The curriculum promotes high academic excellence with a knowledge rich approach. Formative and summative assessments are used to drive academic performance. It also prioritises personal development- developing character, self-awareness, and social responsibility through a diverse curriculum. Our curriculum is dynamic, embracing the opportunities provided by the changing world around us.

Curriculum Design

  • The curriculum has both breadth and depth; students can develop the knowledge and skills in creative and traditional subjects
  • The focus of reading and literacy runs through the curriculum, to ensure that students have the essential skills needed for life and to access the full curriculum
  • Targeted support and additional challenge to ensure that all students exceed national rates of progress
  • Students with additional needs are identified and catered for in all lessons
  • The personal development curriculum supports students socially and emotionally throughout their time at school. Personal development lessons are well structured and meaningful.
  • Bespoke pathways for different groups to ensure that they experience a full a range of disciplines throughout their schooling
  • An alternative curriculum programme supports learners to engage in mainstream schooling.
  • Opportunities of careers advice and guidance are embedded through students’ time at the school. One of these features being TEDdington Talks.

Curriculum Implementation

  • Delivery is through quality first teaching, advice and guidance.
  • Lessons are well planned and assessment is used dynamically to inform future lessons and intervention.
  • Each department plans, delivers and reviews its curriculum – continuously reviewing and updating their offer.
  • Teachers ensure that students think hard in their lessons
  • Our curriculum gradually builds the learning experience. It allows for continuity of experiences as the learner progresses and grows
  • Subject leaders drive assessment in their curriculums through the continuous implementation and review of formative assessment techniques
  • Extra-curricular opportunities are integral to the whole curriculum offer
  • Careers advice and guidance is an integral part of the curriculum offer and is supplemented by an independent, third-party provider.

Curriculum Impact

  • The curriculum is the core of the school, the cornerstone of our ethos and the bedrock of our professional development
  • It has improved behaviour and behaviour for learning
  • It is broadening understanding and the intellectual capacity of our students
  • Subject leaders are making intelligent use of assessment to inform curriculum design
  • It has improved reading, writing and numeracy.

Inclusion, Opportunity, and Excellence in The Classroom

What does inclusion, opportunity, and excellence look like in the classroom? The following bullet points outline the key elements that define these principles in action, helping to create an environment where every student is valued, supported, and given the chance to succeed.

Inclusion:

  • All students are actively included in classroom activities, discussions, and learning experiences, regardless of their background or abilities.
  • A positive and supportive classroom environment is maintained where every student feels valued.
  • Differentiated support strategies are implemented to meet the diverse needs of students.

Opportunity:

  • Every student is provided with equal access to resources, support, and learning opportunities to reach their full potential.
  • Various pathways and choices are available for students to explore their interests and strengths.
  • We foster an environment where students are encouraged and supported to take on new challenges.

Excellence:

  • High expectations are set for all students, and they are supported to achieve their best.
  • Continuous improvement is encouraged through regular feedback, goal setting, and reflective practices.
  • A culture of striving for excellence is promoted, where both effort and achievement are recognised and celebrated.
