Literacy & Reading

At Teddington School, reading and literacy are hugely important. Effective reading and literacy skills allow access to the wider curriculum and support students learning. Literacy skills allow children to explore the ways in which language works so that they can use this knowledge in a variety of situations. Literacy skills include, writing, reading, communicating, listening and understanding.

We are committed to promoting a culture of regular and purposeful reading across all year groups. Our focus is on improving fluency, comprehension, and access to lLibrary 1earning, ensuring that every student develops strong literacy skills.

This commitment is evident not only in our targeted interventions but also in our classroom practices, where subject-specific literacy is seamlessly integrated into all areas of the curriculum. By prioritising both support and proficiency in reading, we aim to empower our students to achieve their full academic potential.
