Art, Design & Technology
At Teddington School, students discover and nurture their unique voice as artists. With a focus on working from personal experience and observation, students use art as a powerful tool for understanding and engaging with the world.
Students become invested in the work that they produce and are encouraged to be independent through the process. They use a range of art making processes to refine their skills, explore techniques and take risks without a fear of making mistakes. Students build knowledge of the world and influences by exploring the work of artists, craftspeople and designers across different cultures and time periods. They can make informed value judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions.
In Design and Technology, throughout KS3 & 4, we teach problem-solving and support divergent thinking. We promote self-belief and seek to build confidence in our young people. Through D&T the students learn life-skills and are encouraged to practise open-mindedness. They are given the opportunity to work with a wide range of materials, equipment and products and as they progress through KS3 they do so with increasing competence and independence.
