Modern Foreign Languages
In Modern Foreign Languages our curriculum is designed to provide all students with the opportunity to excel in learning languages. We foster a love of languages and an appreciation for the cultures they represent, creating an environment where every student feels valued and supported in their endeavours.
Our curriculum challenges all pupils to develop proficient language skills. We set high expectations and support every student to reach their full potential, believing that every pupil can achieve significant progress in learning a foreign language.
The MFL curriculum at Teddington is meticulously planned and sequenced, ensuring students build on knowledge and skills year on year. Each unit builds on prior learning, providing clear progression and ensuring a deep and comprehensive understanding.
Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of students, providing additional support and resources to ensure all can access and succeed in the curriculum. Students are taught in sets based broadly on ability from year 8.
Carefully chosen resources for the languages we study explore a wide range of countries and cultures and we provide a diverse range of linguistic experiences, from everyday life to literature, the environment, music, and art; preparing students for global citizenship.
Students develop linguistic competency in developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Through a range of written and spoken texts, students engage in problem solving and with complex ideas, developing as thoughtful and reflective learners. Through rich linguistic input and opportunities for practice, students are supported to develop a strong vocabulary base and confidence in communication.
By implementing this curriculum intent, we aim to inspire and equip our students with the linguistic skills and cultural understanding they need to thrive in an interconnected world.
