A curriculum that demonstrates inclusion, opportunity, and excellence

  • KS3: Our intent is to support and challenge all students in order to develop their understanding and enjoyment of music from various times and places, including Western Classical styles, popular styles and music from other parts of the world such as China, Jamaica, the Mediterranean and African-American styles.

A curriculum that is ambitious for all pupils

  • KS3: Students experience a diverse curriculum that is supported through historical links of the various styles covered, pieces are selected and arranged to cater for all abilities with support in place. Listening tasks are both challenging, through a range of questioning techniques to develop critical listening and thinking skills. There are opportunities for one-to-one, peer and group discussions and the styles covered range from the familiar to the unfamiliar.

A curriculum that is successfully adapted, designed and developed for disadvantaged pupils

  • We have chosen to cover a wide range of topics. Students are able to use music technology to capture and show their understanding and abilities.

A curriculum that is broad and balanced for all pupils

  • We cover a wide-range of styles, from various cultural backgrounds and times, including The Blues, The Music of China, Motown and Soul, Reggae, The Classical period, Disco and Hip-Hop.

A reading curriculum that is designed to foster critical thinking and analytical skills through diverse texts

  • Students need to research each topic through links and guided reading of given texts

A reading curriculum that is geared towards building vocabulary and language fluency within the subject

  • Key words are provided in the research questions and in the new learning journeys. Students can use these when researching and answering questions about different styles of music.
