Coronavirus – Partial school closure - update 17th March 2020
Posted on: 17/03/2020Dear Parents and Carers,
Coronavirus – partial school closure - update
Thank you for your understanding today. We have adjusted in school arrangements to support those inYears 11 and 13 who have upcoming external exams. We have begun to populate our remote learning platform – Show My Homework for all other year groups.
I understand that the closure has caused some anxiety, and as such I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate and expand on the information in my previous letter. The decision to partially close the school is in response to the updated Government advice that was issued yesterday afternoon:
- If you live on your own and develop symptoms of a cough or high temperature, self-isolate for 7 days
- If you live with someone who has developed the above symptoms, self-isolate for 14 days
- If you have an underlying health issue or are pregnant you should minimise social contact and seek medical advice
This has had a significant effect on the number of staff that are now able to attend school for at least the next 14 days, and this is the basis behind our decision as we can no longer safely staff and operate the school for our entire community. We do not have any staff or students that are confirmed cases of COVID-19, and as such, the school is safe for staff and Year 11 and 13 students to attend.
Our teachers have been working extremely hard to ensure that all students not in school can learn online. All work will be published on Show My Homework so that parents, teachers and students can all see the same work. Students can communicate with teachers via messages on SMHW and hand work in. Many departments will use google classroom (a link will be on SMHW) to share lessons and resources.
All students need for this is their google login. We are trying to encourage an online dialogue with students who are working at home, and trust that these forums will be treated with respect.
Teachers have been creating work and uploading it to SMHW today. By Friday, all work for next week will be uploaded, and we will do our best to work a week in advance.
I will keep you up to date with any further developments.
Thank you for your continued support.
